El Bandarra (Torrijos, 53) is a modern tapas bar situated in the centre of the Gràcia neighbourhood, right next to the Plaça de la Virreina. It’s a fantastic place to go for tapas in the Gràcia area, although you’ll find a fair few punters who’ve just come here for a leisurely weekend vermouth or the first drink of the night. es una moderna tapería situada en el centro del barrio de Gracia, tocando a la Plaza de la Virreina.
We really liked El Bandarra, due to the fact that it’s an innovative restaurant that offers incredible tapas, original dishes that stray from the norms of conventional tapas, with impeccable presentation and an exquisite mix of flavours that will satisfy even the pickiest of palattes.
During our visit to El Bandarra, we tried delicacies such as local sausage and mushroom gyozas, their own take on steak tartar and tuna steak with avocado. On this occasion, we didn’t get round to trying the house specialities, which include grilled octopus and Iberian steak with yakitori sauce, so they’ll have to wait for next time.
The price-quality ratio of El Bandarra is excellent. I wouldn’t call it cheap, but given the cquality of the food, the originality of the dishes and the care taken over their presentation, for me it’s worth paying a little more than any other restaurant. Furthermore, the waiting staff are attentive and friendly, which always makes your food go down better.
El Bandarra has an outdoor terrace in c/Torrijos, a fairly frequently transited street, but you can eat in relative tranquility. The only issue is that the outdoor tables are tables for four people to share, so if you come here with your significant other you’ll probably end up sharing with another couple (something which can either lead to a less intimate date, or be an original way to break the ice with a couple of strangers, depending on how you see it). Each to their own.
Definitively, El Bandarra is a highly recommendable option for anyone who knows how to appreciate finely elaborated tapas: an ideal place to go out for a few bites with friends in Gràcia or enjoy a beautiful evening with your partner.
